Matt
I know you have a new life and I am thrilled for you. Your lovely baby girl is just what you need now along with your new wife. You are an amazing man. I will admire you forever.
We know how much you loved Lecretia and it is awesome to see "Seales" in your baby's name. No-one should have to go through what you and Lecretia went through.

I am reminded at Queen's Birthday Weekend, that it has been 6 years since Lecretia died on June 5th 2015. And now we have a new law making euthanasia legal in certain cases. Thank you and Lecretia for your perserverence your amazing bravery and the success you have had. Thank you for doing this for us lot here in NZ.

Much love to you and your lovely family

he has the right to talk his mind. we're still in a free speech country.
And people should have the right to disagree. And I think is wrong how Nz Herald takes sides of labour campaigns using the news to clearly defend just one point of view.
This is wrong.
And please gentlemans stop saying that this is the opinion of the MAJORITY of kiwis and letting everibody who's opinion is diferent think that they are not supose to talk because they are minority.

Youth suicide and assisted dying are two completely different issues. Semantics do count and the word "suicide" should be removed completely from the assisted dying debate. Anybody who has experienced the aftermath of a suicide and has also experienced a loved one dying in pain and with no dignity understands the complete difference between the two acts. Ardern isn't being hypocritical in her stance on these issues, O'Connor however seems to have missed the message that Jesus came to deliver 2000 years ago. I wonder how many youth suicides he has prevented sitting in his ivory tower of righteousness and how many people's lives he will make a misery because of his personal fears of going to hell. Maybe someone should tell him he's well on the path to get there.

You really disappointed us Simon, I have met you and your wife now, although she was your partner at the time. I enjoyed talking to you both and felt you had a social conscience .
Sadly I have changed my mind and will not vote for you or your party,

I believe there should be an Auditor General inquiry into everything regarding O'Connor's inappropriate Chair of the select committee, starting with did he request this, and by what criteria was he otherwise chosen when Bill English admitted two days ago he was known for his strong view against euthanasia. And I have been saying this since O'Connor promised me via a tweet he would be impartial, and I found out only a week later what he was doing via Catholic publications - so he was lying through his death on his tweet.

I think O'Connor had one mission (for *his* God): use the select committee to ensure the issue of euthanasia never made it close to being debated in Parliament. I am disgusted in everything surrounding this. I am politically a small-stater, thus not a Left voter but very much want National to go on September 23. I want the choice of euthanasia, but that will never come from the arrogance and hubris of National (and gee I hope O'Connor is swept out and back to the monastery).

I guess I will vote ACT to ensure David's bill remains alive - even though not as good as Maryan's - then hope for a Labour government to amend it appropriately and get it through given Ardern has spoken out for choice. If not, then we are possibly decades away from getting this issue on the platform again, and people who are in the unenviable position they want this choice - even if it's only one - don't have the luxury of time. This is cruel. Albeit such a pity this is a conscience vote: I think a responsible party should bring in this law as policy.

Kudos Matt. Great respect for all you've done (and Maryan Street).

I've had cancer twice and I submitted in writing. I think having an ex-priest in charge of this issue was completely inappropriate. And the opinion piece he wrote was patronising aka I studied to be a priest for nine years so I know best. Well I went to uni for a few years too and had parents who taught me to think for myself. Hallelujah for that. What a set up the whole thing was.

I too had the misfortune of sitting across him as I presented to the committee. He hardly met my gaze and was far from empathetic as I recalled painful details of loved ones who suffered terribly in their final months and weeks. Through his actions to me that day I knew I was not getting a fair hearing. He clearly has not seen enough in his short life to understand that youth suicide is absolutely nothing like voluntary euthanasia under strict conditions. I'm appalled by his lack of knowledge.
